Apocryphal and Forbidden Books

Texts translated by Lorenzo Bermejo Thomas

Apocryphal (from Greek, “kriptos,” hidden) are those texts that in certain cultures were reserved for the private use of Initiates. Afterwards, the Catholic Church and the Protestant Church established that certain writings were “apocryphal,” giving these Scriptures an erroneous meaning and saying they were false (or in the best case, “hardly believable”) and of doubtful origin. Over time, some of their contents were announced as “heretical.”

We open a section in which we will include all the apocryphal texts (in their two meanings), both of the Old and New Testament, and including the vast library of Qumran, Nag-Hammadi, and books that were forbidden during centuries by different institutions.

We will talk about, analyze, comment and provide a vast bibliography of over 300 books, texts and fragments that we have obtained and that are published in English, with the aim that the Initiate obtains a global vision of the traditions, symbols, myths and antique knowledge that are the basis of religions, cultures, sects, and even political, cultural and artistic trends. A colourful world that will make us understand that in most cases, the mystic we follow today as “new” is really a “reinvented” old one.

The dates of the texts and books that will be included in this section are estimated from 587 BC to 1700 AD, dates that have been confirmed by the best linguists, philologists, translators and specialists. We will have Apocryphal books of Palestine, of the Jewish Diaspora, Hellenistic, from Egypt and from groups influenced by the discoveries in Qumran.

We will also include apocryphal narrations in the form of testaments, sapiential, apocalyptic, psalms and prayers, prophetic, Gnostic and Manichaean, from pharisaic groups, Arab, Essene, Ethiopian, Coptic, Russian, and even Spanish.

We will enter a world full of novelties and will show it with all its rawness, without censorship, with the aim that Initiates draw their own conclusions after studying them and “sipping their marrow.”

As an idea for curious palates, here go some references that will stimulate you to go into the subject of the apocryphal and forbidden books in depth. Your curiosity will surely grow and transform into wisdom, file after file, as they are all uploaded:
